Meet the Scholars

Dodi Alloca
Ingersoll Rand
Dodi is from Richmond, Virginia, and rising junior at Davidson where she is majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Hispanic Studies. This summer, she is working with Ingersoll-Rand writing end of life manuals for their products. In the fall, she plans on studying food culture in Perugia, Italy, and she is interested in how food systems impact environmental and human health. 
Jonathan Lee
Envision Charlotte
Jonathan Lee is a rising Junior, Environmental Studies major born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. This summer, he will be interning with Envision Charlotte and working on their Summer Waste Challenge in the Charlotte Downtown area. In addition to issues concerning waste, Jonathan is also interested in the issues of sustainability surrounding food and water management. During the school year, Jonathan works on the Davidson Farm and plays trumpet with the Davidson Pep Band.
Kate Meeks
Mecklenburg County
Kate is a rising junior Anthropology major and Environmental Studies minor at Davidson. She grew up in Dublin, Ohio, but her parents recently moved to Williamsburg, VA. This summer she is working for Mecklenburg County at the Land Use & Environmental Services Building, and will be working on updating the 2016 State of the Environment Report, and creating a county-wide employee engagement program. In the future, Kate hopes to pursue a career bridging the gap between social and Environmental Justice, and if she can, focus on food accessibility and sustainability. Kate is a member of the Davidson College field hockey team, and will endorse anyone who drinks coffee as much as she.
Katherine English
City of Charlotte
Katherine is a rising senior from Louisville, KY, home of the Kentucky Derby, lots of bourbon, and incredible food. In addition to pursuing a Political Science major, she is also a member of the field hockey team at Davidson College. This summer she will be working on sustainability projects for the City of Charlotte. When not playing field hockey or completing schoolwork, she is thinking of what her next meal will consist of.
Margo Stockdale
Clean Air Carolina
Margo Stockdale is a sophomore from Atlanta, GA. She is currently undeclared but leaning towards environmental studies. This summer, she will be interning with Clean Air Carolina, and working on a citizen science initiative that will map the air quality in Charlotte. She enjoys petting dogs and can wiggle her ears.
Meredith Hess
Ingersoll Rand
Meredith is a rising junior from Claremont, CA but her family now calls Crawfordsville, IN home. She is an Environmental Studies major and hopes to pursue a career in architecture or urban planning post-Davidson as a way to investigate the intersection between the natural environment and the built environment. This summer she will be working for Ingersoll Rand, studying and developing a set of environmental criteria for leased facilities. When not in the classroom, she enjoys rowing for the Club Crew team and thinking of ways to finish short online bios cleverly.
Peter Whitehouse
Friendship Gardens
Peter Whitehouse is a rising junior environmental studies and music double major from the traffic light of Vass, North Carolina. His scholarly interests include food justice, fluvial systems, and climate systems. Peter is also very active in the Davidson music scene, playing trombone for the symphony orchestra and jazz ensemble. This summer, Peter will work with the urban farm, Friendship Gardens, to provide locally-grown, healthy food to citizens of Charlotte.
Quinn Massengill
Davidson College Farm
Quinn Massengill is a rising sophomore at Davidson College. He grew up in Hickory Flat, Mississippi, and attended the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS), a public residential high school. Quinn has not declared a major yet, but plans to study English at Davidson. Outside of the classroom, Quinn is an editor for Davidson literary magazine Libertas, a photography mentor with Davidson's YouthMAP program, and a campus tour guide. This summer, Quinn is participating in the Sustainability Scholars Program and works at the Davidson College farm, growing organic produce for the 'Cats Supported Agriculture program.
Steffaney Wood
Sustain Charlotte
Steffaney Wood is a rising junior and an environmental studies major from the Washington D.C. area. This summer, she will be working on the second edition of the Mecklenburg-Charlotte Sustainability Report Card with non-profit organization Sustain Charlotte. On campus, Steffaney is involved in the Davidsonian, the Environmental Action Coalition, and YouthMAP. This upcoming fall, she will be studying abroad as part of the Davidson in India program. 
Taylor Brendle
Crescent Communities
Taylor Brendle hails from East Bend, NC and is a rising senior at Davidson. She majors in Psychology and Religion and will graduate in May of 2017. As a sustainability scholar this summer, Taylor is working with Crescent Communities in their marketing department. Her current projects include working with local non-profit relations and corporate philanthropy, as well as social and economic sustainability in the non-profit corporate partnership.
